On the evening of August 12, 2014 the Consulate General of India, New York celebrated Eid in association with  the Muslims community of New York to show-case India's multicultural and multi-religious peaceful existence. Eid, primarily the festival of Muslims since their arrival in India in seventh century AD, is not a Muslim only festival instead it is celebrated by all communities in India and elsewhere.

Consul General of India in New York Ambassador Dnyaneshwar M. Mulay congratulated the guests from Muslim community, Sikh community, Parsi Community, Christian community and Hindu community who were present on this auspicious occasion. In his remarks Consul General Amb. Mulay mentioned that the greatness of Indian Diaspora here in the US lies in their belief in harmony and peace.  He informed that the Consulate was organizing monthly events aimed at discussing and highlighting India’s global image, identity, aspirations, role and projection and related themes for mainstream media, University students, youth and second generation Indian Americans.

Ms. Sidra Fatima explained that "Eid-Ul-Fitr", commonly known as "Eid" is celebrated after fasting for a month to purify the soul, develop self control and bring oneself closer to God.

During the celebration, Dr Sultan Khan, Dr Abu Taher, Dr Sayed Ali, Mr Naim Dum, Mr Ahmed Sakir, Mr Saeed Patel, Mr Malik Zakaria, Mr Mohammed Azam, and Mr Amin Himani noted personalities - from the community were honored on stage for their contributions in different walks of life such as medical, economic and education. Mr Juned Qazi took a leading role in organizing the celebrations.

The ghazals of Mr Sudhir Narain of Agra Gharana touched the hearts of the approximately 110 guests present to celebrate the Eid. The musical evening concluded with the atmosphere of unity and dinner.
