Indian classical vocal concert of ustad IQBAL AHMED KHAN the head/khalifa of dilli gharana

 

            The Consulate General of India, New York organized Indian classical music (vocal) concert of Ustad Iqbal Ahmed Khan, the Head/ Khalifa of Dilli Gharana (one of the well-known schools of Indian classical music) on Friday, July 12, 2013 at the Consulate Ballroom.

         Consul General Ambassador Dnyaneshwar Mulay welcomed the artists by presenting flowers and inaugurated the event by traditional lamp lighting. Consul Sugandh Rajaram welcomed the guests and introduced Ustad Iqbal Ahmed Khan and Dilli Gharana to the audience.

Ustad Iqbal Ahmed Khan has been serving the Indian Classical Music for more than 50 years. He has received much acclaim in India and worldwide and been awarded numerous awards nationally and internationally. He has emerged as an active promoter of musical work and a true custodian (Khalifa) of Dilli Gharana. The Dilli Gharana roots back to the times of Amir Khusrau in the 13th century.

Ustad Iqbal Ahmed Khan is well known for his versatility and graceful vocal expression. His renditions have been described as uniquely powerful and delicate at the same time. His expertise in a number of forms of music makes his range very wide.

During the concert the classical segment was based on Khayal which is his first and foremost singing style. In the semi-classical segment he sang Thumris, Ghazals and Bhajans. He was accompanied by Pandit Ramesh Misra on Sarangi and Ustad Kadar Khan on Tabla.

The programme was attended by large number of members of the cultural community in New York City and Tri-State area.
