The God of Small Things

The Consulate General of India, New York held a special screening of the documentary of the film - The God of Small Things on May 13, 2014. The screening was followed by reviews from Mr. Joshua Seftel and Ms. Catherine Cusset.

Mr. Joshua Seftel, Executive Producer, Seftel Productions reviewed the film and touched on Ms. Roy's style of depicting the Indian family relationships and social behavior. He also highlighted the story's distinct narrative of viewing familial ties from a child's perspective. 

Ms. Cusset, a distinguished author herself, threw light on the issues of caste, race and gender - which the story so subtly emphasizes. She also dealt with what is known as 'Love Laws' - the laws that lay down who should be loved, and how.


Consul General Dnyaneshwar M. Mulay

Consul General Dnyaneshwar M. Mulay, appreciated the efforts of the cast and crew of the film. He also accentuated the description of the Indian society over a time frame of thirty years. The audience, comprising of second generation Americans and film lovers enjoyed the film discussion and were seen to be enthusiastically participating in the session.
