With effect from 30 March 2021, the Government of India has now decided to restore the following sub-categories of Electronic Visa [e-Visa]:

(i) e-Business Visa,

(ii) e-Medical/Medical Attendant visa; and

(iii) e-Conference Visa.

However, it may be noted that previous valid e-visas for the above categories, as well as for other categories, including eTourist Visa, and Tourist visa (T or T-1) will continue to remain suspended.

Emergency Entry visa is issued for only 6 months validity. Applications will be received in-person at the Consulate only in cases of emergency due to death in the family on working days (Monday-Friday) between 9:30 AM to 11:00 AM.  In all such cases, applicant needs to submit the Death Certificate. Applications without Death Certificate will not be accepted at the Counter. For Emergency Visa due to death in the family on weekends and holidays, please call Emergency No. 917-815-7066.

All other emergency visa applications, other than death cases have to be mailed to the Consulate.  Due to current pandemic, the processing time is longer than usual. After the document has been received at the consulate, visas are granted within 5-6 business days subject to all documents being in order. 

However, there may be delays due to non-receipt of your application by shipment. Please also factor in the time to receive back your passport with visa by mail.  Your patience and co-operation is appreciated in this regard.

Applications received with incomplete documents will be rejected forthright.

  • Fill the visa form at https://indianvisaonline.gov.in/visa/index.html. After submitting the form, please print the form, sign it (at both places – below photograph and last page) and send it to the Consulate with other required documents mentioned below via shipment only.

(Please upload mandatory latest photo (2x2 inch with white background).Without uploaded photograph or any colored background other than white -visa form will be rejected and documents will be sent back without service.)

  • Original Passport (valid for at least 6 months and two blank pages) and one copy of passport (photograph page only)
  • Copy of Address Proof – Driver’s License/State ID (New York, Ohio, Vermont, Rhode Island, New Jersey, Massachusetts, New Hampshire, Connecticut, Maine, and Pennsylvania)
  • Pre-Paid return envelope (USPS/UPS) with tracking ID.
  • Death Certificate/Medical Certificate/Doctor’s note confirming Emergency.
  • Either Self’s or Parent’s or Spouse’s Indian Passport/OCI Copy (valid/cancelled) to validate Indian origin.
  • Additional documents, if applicant is minor:
    • Notarized Parental Authorization Form 
    • Parent’s passport copies
    • Child’s birth certificate copy
    • Parents’ address proof
    • Application can be signed by the Parents for minors or a thumb impression can be stamped
  • Visa Fee for Entry Visa
    • USA Passport Holder -  US$ 103/-
    • Canadian Passport holder -  US$ 103/-
    • Identity certificate of India - No fee

Fees will be accepted only by – MONEY ORDER/CASHIER’S CHECK –  payable to “Consulate General of India, New York” (PERSONAL CHECKS ARE NOT ACCEPTED)
